THE RIVER CHURCH
In 1996 the Atlantic District of the Wesleyan Church planted two new churches in Bangor - River City Wesleyan Church and Pathway Wesleyan Church. These two churches took root and through the ups and downs of the next two decades continued to pursue their mission to help people to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ and saw many lives transformed and disciples made.
In early 2016, after enjoying several opportunities to worship together, the pastors and boards of the respective churches began to develop a clear sense that the two churches had strengths that would significantly compliment each other and that God was opening up an opportunity for these two streams to flow together to form one river. After a process of prayer, discernment, and consultation the decision was made to merge the two churches to form one new church and thus The River Church was born.
We are excited about the future God has in store for us. In Ezekiel 47:1-12 there is a prophecy about a river that flows out of the temple, the place of worship and God’s presence. The river flows through the city and brings new life and healing to everything it touches.
“And it shall be that every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live… for they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes.”
It is our desire to be a church like that. A church that gathers to worship together in the presence of God and then goes out together to serve our city and bring the new life of the Gospel to everyone we meet.
